چکیده
AIMS To examine whether coagulation-fibrinolysis in late pregnancy in women with twin pregnancies is more pronounced than in women with singleton pregnancies. PATIENTS AND METHODS The plasma levels of D-dimer, fibrinogen/fibrin degradation products (FDP), and fibrinogen, the platelet count, and the antithrombin activity were assessed from 3 weeks before delivery until postpartum day 7 in 48 women (24 singleton and 24 twin pregnancies) without preeclampsia who underwent cesarean sections. RESULTS Women with singleton or twin pregnancies gave birth at 37.3+/-1.2 weeks or 35.2+/-1.4 weeks, respectively. Compared with singleton mothers, prenatal D-dimer and FDP levels were consistently and significantly higher among women with twin pregnancies. A significantly larger proportion of twin mothers exhibited prenatal levels of D-dimer >5.0 microg/mL, FDP >10.0 microg/mL, fibrinogen <420 mg/mL and antithrombin activity <70%. In addition, prenatal antithrombin activity in plasma was significantly lower. CONCLUSIONS Coagulation-fibrinolysis is more enhanced in women with twin gestation than in women with singleton gestation.

I-40: Ultrasound in Multiple Pregnancy
Ultrasound has revolutioned the care of women carring twins. First trimester evaluation is the best time to determine chorioniocity and amnioniocity in multiple gestations. First trimester diagnosis is based on the number of gestational sacs, amnions and yolk sacs. Growth rate in multiple multiple gestations during the fist and early second trimesters parallels the growth rate of singleton preg...
متن کاملPlatelet reactivity in twin pregnancies.
BACKGROUND Gestational thrombocytopenia is more likely to occur in twin than singleton pregnancies. However, it is unclear whether platelets are more reactive in twin than singleton pregnancies. METHODS Changes in spontaneous platelet aggregation and concomitant fall in platelet count were examined over 90min after blood sampling in 171 and 52 citrated whole blood (CWB) samples from 59 and 17...
متن کاملPnm-23: Ultrasound Evaluation of Multiple Pregnancies
Over the past 25 years the rate of twin and higher - order multifetal birth have increased between 1980 and 2005. The twining rate rose from 18.9 to 32.1 per 1000 live birth. Multifetal gestations are at high risk of fetaland complication such as; growth restricted fetal death, LBW and cerebral palasy. Maternal complication are that also increased such as: preeclampsia, diabetes, maternal death...
متن کاملComparing Perinatal Outcome in Twin and Singleton Pregnancies Regarding Doppler Evaluation of Uterine Artery Indices in the Second Trimester
Background: Prediction of adverse perinatal and postnatal outcomes could be possible by using ultrasound Doppler evaluation, however there are some controversies regarding this issue in the literature. The goal of present study was to evaluate predictive value of Doppler indices in single and twin pregnancies during second trimester. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted i...
متن کاملChronic Placental Inflammation in Twin Pregnancies
BACKGROUND Chronic placental inflammation, such as villitis of unknown etiology (VUE) and chronic chorioamnionitis (CCA), is considered a placental manifestation of maternal anti-fetal rejection. The aim of this study is to investigate its frequency in twin pregnancies compared to singleton pregnancies. METHODS Three hundred twin placentas and 1,270 singleton placentas were consecutively coll...
